According to state police reports, the left lane of Route 9 and the exit 34 off-ramp were closed for construction at the time of the crash. A CT DOT supervisor’s vehicle, parked with emergency safety lights activated, was rear-ended by the other vehicle. The driver, identified as Brian Ayers, was reportedly attempting to slow down but veered into the construction zone, resulting in the collision.
The DOT worker experienced minor pain and was evaluated on the scene by emergency medical personnel but did not require hospitalization. Ayers did not report any injuries; however, observations made by state troopers indicated that he was showing signs of intoxication. They detected a smell of alcohol, noted an open alcoholic beverage in his vehicle, and observed that he was extremely unsteady on his feet.
Following the observations, Ayers was subjected to a field sobriety test, which he failed. Consequently, he was arrested on multiple charges, including:

Ayers was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 31.
