The situation remains active, and the director of the Baltimore City Office of Emergency Management, Joey Henderson, indicated that efforts to tame the flames would likely extend into the evening.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott has advised the public to steer clear of the area surrounding the fire. The Baltimore Police Department’s Arson Unit is conducting a joint investigation alongside the BCFD Investigation Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to determine the fire’s cause, which remains unknown at this time.

Transport Disruptions

The situation has disrupted local transport services as the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has suspended Light Rail train services in the affected area. To aid commuters, a bus bridge has been established from Falls Road to Patapsco Light Rail Station, alongside detours for regular bus routes in effect.

Fortunately, officials have reported no injuries related to the fire, which was first noted at around 3:05 p.m.. Initial fire units on the scene quickly requested further backup, indicating the large scale of the fire and the challenges posed by the rapidly spreading flames.

Nearby landmarks that have been affected by smoke and fire include the Hippodrome Theatre, CFG Bank Arena, and the University of Maryland’s Baltimore campus.
