Baltimore – Deonte Price has been sentenced to life in prison plus 40 years for his role in the fatal shooting of Dabrae Edwards, as announced by Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates. The incident that led to this severe sentence took place on May 19, 2023, around 8:45 p.m. in the 200 block of East Street.

During the incident, two individuals were shot, including Edwards, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was found unresponsive. The second victim received a gunshot wound to the right leg. Upon discovering the scene, police found the victims’ vehicle had crashed into the side of a nearby rowhome.

Emergency medical responders transported Edwards to a local hospital where he died from his injuries on May 21, 2023. The second victim’s condition is currently undisclosed.

Upon arriving at the location, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough investigation, revealing critical evidence. Crime Lab technicians recovered a .40 caliber Ghost Gun with an extended magazine, as well as .40 caliber and 9mm spent casings, blood, and clothing from the site of the shooting. It was later confirmed that Edwards was targeted while conversing with the second victim, shortly before Price approached and threatened them.

CCTV footage from the Pleasant View Gardens Apartment Complex captured the moments leading up to the shooting. The video shows Edwards parking his vehicle and speaking with the second victim when Price arrived, blocking their escape. He displayed a handgun and opened fire on Edwards, who attempted to flee the scene but lost control of his car, leading to the crash.

Reports indicate that another unidentified shooter was also present during the attack. Police units in the vicinity quickly responded to the sounds of gunfire. Authorities apprehended Price as he tried to escape the crime scene. During his flight, he discarded a Ghost Gun, which was later recovered by the police.

Additionally, footage documented Price fleeing and disposing of the weapon before he was found resting on the steps in the 200 block of St. Matthews Street. Ultimately, he was charged and faced prosecution due to the severity of the violent incident.

Price’s sentencing includes a stipulation of ten years without the possibility of parole, underscoring the courts’ zero-tolerance stance on gun violence, particularly involving the use of untraceable firearms known as Ghost Guns.

The tragedy of this case is not an isolated incident in Baltimore. The increasing prevalence of Ghost Guns in crime has raised alarm among law enforcement agencies and community advocates, prompting calls for stricter regulations and enforcement measures to combat the spiraling gun violence in the city.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in addressing gun-related crimes. The community remains in mourning following the loss of Dabrae Edwards, reflecting widespread concerns about safety and the dangers posed by illegal firearms.
