Wesley Chapel, Florida – Saddlebrook Resort Unveils $92 Million Revitalization Project

Saddlebrook Resort, a well-known 480-acre destination near Tampa, Florida, has initiated a significant $92 million revitalization project aimed at transforming its golf and leisure offerings. This long-awaited renovation comes as part of an effort to re-establish the resort as a premier location for leisure travelers, sports enthusiasts, and group events, a position it maintained for over 40 years.

Major Renovations Underway

The revitalization project was launched following the acquisition of Saddlebrook Resort by Mast Capital in partnership with Amzak Capital Management in 2022. The redevelopment plan encompasses a complete overhaul of both the resort facilities and the golf course itself. Leading the golf course redesign is world-renowned architect Rees Jones, who plans to reconfigure the existing two 18-hole courses, originally designed by Arnold Palmer, into three 9-hole championship courses. This new layout will create a versatile 27-hole structure, allowing players to experience three distinct 18-hole courses by rotating the nine-hole layouts.

Golf Course Features and Improvements

The ongoing renovation, which began in late 2024, includes modernizing six holes from the previous Palmer Course while enhancing the driving range, which has been relocated closer to the main lobby for improved accessibility. The new driving range will extend over 360 yards, surrounded by 13 acres of cutting-edge practice facilities. These facilities feature:

  • A double-sided driving range
  • Two TifEagle™ bermudagrass putting greens
  • Three short-game areas designed with precision greenside bunkers

Ensuring compliance with USGA specifications, the golf course transformations will incorporate rebuilding green complexes and reshaping bunkers. An advanced irrigation and drainage system will be installed to optimize turf conditions for sustainability. The varying course distances will range from 6,600 to 7,005 yards, with a standard par of 71 or 72.

Progress Timeline

Golf enthusiasts can look forward to the debut of one of the new nine-hole courses in late 2025, followed by another opening in early 2026. The third course is expected to be available for limited play, with full renovations slated for the spring or summer of 2026.

Broader Plan for Enhancement

Besides the golf course renovations, the resort’s master plan, led by EoA Group, focuses on several other enhancements, including:

  • Upgraded guest rooms and residential-style suites
  • Innovative dining concepts
  • Modernized event spaces for gatherings
  • Improved outdoor areas with multiple pool options
  • Over 40,000 square feet of meeting space

Saddlebrook Resort will continue to maintain its reputation as a world-class sports training facility, featuring 43 tennis courts, eight pickleball courts, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a relaxing spa, and a planned multi-court padel complex.

Sports Legacy and Accessibility

This resort is home to the Saddlebrook Golf Academy and the prestigious Hopman Tennis Program. It has also attracted numerous notable athletes, including tennis legends like Pete Sampras, Jim Courier, and ATP World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, who has been training at Saddlebrook since he was just 12 years old. Golf operations and membership sales are managed by Troon Golf.

Future Developments

In addition to the resort’s enhancements, a new town center is planned within the property, including 465 rental apartments, 25 townhomes, and 75,000 square feet dedicated to retail and office space. Conveniently located just 30 minutes from Tampa International Airport, Saddlebrook Resort is well-positioned to attract visitors looking for a top-tier leisure experience.
