News Summary

Dr. Craig Davis is on a cross-country cycling journey from Canada to Alaska as part of his ‘Riding for Peace’ campaign, promoting dialogue and understanding among communities. Despite facing challenges such as inclement weather, he has received warmth and kindness from Canadian locals, reinforcing his mission to bridge cultural gaps. The campaign highlights the importance of discussing societal divisions and fostering connections beyond politics while encouraging others to join in meaningful conversations and actions towards unity.

Panama City, Florida – Dr. Craig Davis, an American physician, is currently on a unique journey known as the “Riding for Peace” campaign, cycling from Prince George, Canada, to Juneau, Alaska. Launched in June, the initiative emphasizes the importance of fostering peace and understanding among different cultures, encouraging communities to contemplate “how can we do better” amid growing tensions between the U.S. and Canada.

Dr. Davis’s campaign follows previous cycling expeditions across Florida and a trip from Florida to Louisiana in 2020 and 2021. His latest journey has been marked by an unexpected warmth from the Canadian communities he has encountered, contradicting the reports he had heard about potential coldness towards Americans. The doctor’s experiences along the way have included hospitable interactions, such as spending a night with a local woman and her son who generously invited him to dinner.

Throughout his travels, Dr. Davis has been the recipient of various acts of kindness. For instance, a First Nations individual assisted him by transporting him and his bicycle in a convertible for approximately 35-40 miles when he was unable to cover the entire 85 miles that day. Additionally, friendly passersby have offered him water and stopped to check on him when they noticed he was resting, showcasing the friendly nature of the communities he visits.

Despite appreciating the warm reception, Dr. Davis has faced challenges on his journey. He has endured six hours of heavy rain and struggled to find suitable accommodations. The final stretch of his ride to Prince Rupert proved to be particularly cumbersome due to hilly terrain and rain, which soaked him and made his rubber shoe covers ineffective.

To continue his journey, Dr. Davis modified his route to fly from Prince Rupert to Whitehorse, Alaska, where he is currently planning the next segments of his trip. His next destinations include riding to Skagway, Alaska, followed by taking a ferry to Juneau.

The “Riding for Peace” campaign’s overarching goal is to foster connections and open dialogues. Dr. Davis aims to promote understanding and self-reflection, emphasizing the need to discuss issues of societal division beyond political contexts. His efforts are encapsulated in the establishment of a non-governmental organization, PeaceBridge Solutions, designed to facilitate conversations around healing societal fractures and promoting unity.

As part of sharing his experiences, Dr. Davis is actively documenting his journey through a daily blog on the PeaceBridge Solutions website. This platform captures the stories and interactions he encounters along the way, reinforcing the campaign’s mission to bridge cultural gaps.

Dr. Craig Davis’s journey stands as a testament to individual efforts in promoting peace and understanding amidst divisive times. Through his campaign, he hopes to inspire others to engage in meaningful discussions and actions that support cross-cultural relations, guiding communities towards a more peaceful coexistence.
