Oceanside – Construction for the Oceanside Transit Center Pedestrian Crossing Extension project is set to begin on Tuesday, August 4, with the aim of improving access for pedestrians between the Transit Center parking lot and the COASTER platform. The project is anticipated to enhance safety and reduce the walking time for commuters.
Work on the project will primarily be conducted during the late evening and overnight hours, specifically from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday. Some additional activities will take place during the day between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., also from Monday to Friday. Residents in the area should be prepared for potential disturbances, as the construction may generate loud equipment noise and the use of bright lights, particularly during the overnight hours.
To manage the impact on the community, contractors have stated that lights will be directed as needed to minimize disruption to nearby homes. The construction phase is expected to continue until December 2025.
This $2.6 million project is funded through a combination of state and federal sources and is being coordinated by the North County Transit District (NCTD). The project will feature important upgrades, including modifications to ADA ramps, the installation of pedestrian gates on either side of the crossing, and enhanced safety measures to ensure the well-being of commuters.
The announcement regarding the construction schedule has been shared with Oceanside residents through a social media update, aiming to keep the community informed about what to expect during the project timeline.
The Oceanside Transit Center serves as a critical hub for local and regional transit connections, and the improvements included in this project are designed to facilitate a safer and more efficient transit experience for all users. By reducing the walking distance from the parking area to the COASTER platform, the project is expected to encourage increased public transportation usage, ultimately contributing to a more environmentally-friendly transportation option for the residents of Oceanside.
Furthermore, this initiative aligns with wider transportation planning goals aimed at improving transit access throughout the region while ensuring accessibility for all residents, including those with disabilities. The construction project’s completion will mark a significant improvement not only in pedestrian safety but also in the overall transit system efficiency in Oceanside.
Community members are encouraged to stay updated on the progress of the construction and to understand that while the work may cause temporary inconveniences, it is vital for long-term improvements in transit accessibility and safety.
