Minco, Oklahoma – A school bus carrying Minco High School softball players and coaches was involved in a serious accident on Monday night, leaving several individuals injured. As of September 9, 2025, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has reported that multiple people remain hospitalized following the crash.

Of the 18 people aboard the bus, an adult male is in critical condition due to life-threatening injuries, while two juveniles are also reported to be in critical condition. The identity of the adult male has not yet been released. All parties were on their way back from a softball game when the incident occurred.

The bus was driven by Cody Schmidt, the head high school softball coach. The crash took place on State Highway 152 just east of Cogar shortly before 8 p.m. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the bus swerved left to avoid hitting a deer but struck the deer instead, resulting in a rollover accident.

During the rollover, four individuals were ejected from the vehicle. The injuries reported include six passengers and the driver, with one adult and two students sustaining critical injuries. Only the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, while the bus reportedly lacked seatbelts for the other passengers.

In addition to those in critical condition, authorities confirmed that two adults and two students sustained non-serious injuries. Minco school district superintendent Kevin Sims expressed the community’s shock regarding the incident and offered gratitude that no fatalities were reported.

In response to the accident, a prayer meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening on the softball field to support those affected. Meanwhile, the school superintendent has announced that classes will resume on Wednesday. However, homecoming events have been postponed; the parade is now set for October 2, and the homecoming game will take place on October 3.

The community has rallied together to provide assistance to the affected families. Donations can be made to help the softball team through the First National Bank and Trust in Minco. Additionally, a Meal Train page has been established to support Jordan Benge, another coach who is recovering in critical condition and facing multiple medical procedures as a result of the crash.

One survivor of the accident, Presley Bilderback, has shared her harrowing experience and expressed relief that all individuals involved survived the ordeal. As the community comes to terms with the incident, there is a strong show of support and love for those impacted, reinforcing the sense of unity that defines Minco.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers faced on the roads and the importance of safety measures. As investigations continue, the Minco community is focused on recovery and healing.
