New York – A comprehensive ranking of America’s Leading Doctors for 2025 has been released, featuring more than 2,800 doctors spanning 15 different medical specialties. This inaugural ranking, compiled by two prominent research organizations, is designed to provide patients with trusted, data-driven insights to guide their health care decisions.

The rankings span various specialties, with 175 to 200 doctors listed in each category. The top 30 in each specialty have been ranked numerically, while the remaining doctors are organized alphabetically. This new ranking marks a significant expansion beyond earlier rankings that focused solely on vascular and spine surgeons. Doctors listed in the rankings are associated with up to three hospitals, reflecting patient volume and other evaluative measures. Notably, those not affiliated with hospitals may operate within private practices or specialized medical institutes.

Among the 2025 rankings, Dr. Leonard Girardi of NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center has been identified as the leading cardiothoracic surgeon. His expertise underscores the high standards and dedication required in the field of medicine, which often demands long hours and personal sacrifices to ensure the best patient care.

In constructing this ranking, a thorough evaluation process was employed. Doctors were assessed based on a combination of performance data, which accounted for 60% of their score, and peer recommendations, which made up 27.5% of the evaluation. Other criteria included quality assessments (7.5%) and professional certifications (5%). Performance data was collected from sources such as Medicare Fee-for-Service claims and CareJourney and included metrics around treatment episodes, mortality rates, unplanned readmissions, and payment averages.

Doctors who treated a high volume of patients were marked with “High Performance” indicators, signifying their exemplary service. An extensive peer recommendation survey involving thousands of medical professionals across the country supported the rankings by evaluating the quality of care, the use of advanced technology in practice, and the expertise demonstrated by the doctors.

Ranking second in the list for vascular surgery is Dr. Joseph Ricotta, who noted the growing significance of minimally invasive procedures and artificial intelligence in enhancing patient treatment. Third place in the colorectal surgery category goes to Dr. Martin Weiser, who is recognized for his focus on personalized treatment for young patients facing colorectal cancer, as well as his initiatives aimed at improving their long-term quality of life.

This evaluation aimed not only to honor individual doctors but also to reflect the ongoing evolution of medical fields. It recognizes advancements in technology and methodologies that significantly improve patient care and outcomes. In addition to professional expertise, community service and transparency in patient interactions were emphasized as crucial factors for specialists in today’s health care environment.

The first-ever ranking serves as a pivotal resource for patients navigating health care choices and seeking the guidance of leading professionals in their respective fields. The inherent goal of these rankings is to empower individuals with reliable information, allowing them to make informed decisions when it comes to their medical care and treatment options.

As the health care landscape continues to evolve with emerging technologies and practices, such rankings will play a vital role in helping patients connect with the most qualified and dedicated specialists available.
