Construction projects in Lake Tahoe region impacting traffic flow.
Motorists in the Lake Tahoe region should prepare for lane closures as multiple construction projects commence next week. Key projects include a significant $31.7 million pavement rehabilitation on State Route 28 and ongoing utility work. The Fanny Bridge will also be closed to all traffic until mid-November, necessitating detours. Increased noise and vibrations from construction activities are expected, so drivers are urged to remain vigilant for potential delays and disruptions stemming from these essential infrastructure improvements.
Lake Tahoe, CA – Motorists in the Lake Tahoe region should prepare for significant lane closures next week due to several ongoing construction projects, as announced by CalTrans. These projects aim to enhance infrastructure and improve roadway conditions, but they will also impact traffic flow in the area.
One of the key projects is a $31.7 million pavement rehabilitation initiative along State Route 28 (SR 28) in Tahoe City. The contractor responsible for this project is Mercer Fraser Company, based in Eureka. Construction work on SR 28 is scheduled to take place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting Sunday, August 24, through Thursday, August 28. Motorists should expect disruptions on the westbound lanes, as bi-directional traffic will be implemented to facilitate the work.
No street parking will be permitted within the construction zone, but access to cross streets and driveways will remain unimpeded. An additional work session is planned for Friday, August 29, from 7 a.m. until noon.
In addition to the pavement work on SR 28, utility work is scheduled to occur on Monday, August 25, and Tuesday, August 26, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. This work will take place between Star Harbor Court and Lake Forest Road (west).
A significant disruption will also affect the Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City, which is closed to all traffic until November 15. During this closure, traffic detours will direct vehicles to use Lake Boulevard to access both State Route 89 (SR 89) and SR 28. Fortunately, West Lake Boulevard will remain open for business and transit center access despite the bridge closure. Moreover, the pedestrian and bicycle path across the Truckee River Dam will be accessible throughout the construction period.
In connection to the ongoing projects, drivers can expect increased noise and vibrations due to pile driving activities slated for Saturday, August 23, and Sunday, August 24.
Further construction activities include broadband utility work on SR 28 from Monday, August 25, through Thursday, August 28, occurring between the State Route 267 junction in Kings Beach and the Nevada state line. There will also be overnight utility work between 8 p.m. on August 24 and 7 a.m. on August 25 between Park Lane and Harbor Avenue in Brockway.
Additionally, along SR 89 in Placer County, utility work is scheduled from Monday, August 25, through Thursday, August 28, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. This work will occur between South Street and Fern Street in the Homewood area.
All drivers in the Lake Tahoe area should remain vigilant and expect possible delays due to these construction and utility projects. It’s important to note that schedules for construction and utility work are subject to change based on weather conditions, equipment availability, or unforeseen circumstances.
