Panama City – Florida State University Panama City’s Collegiate School has achieved an impressive ‘A’ grade from the state of Florida for the second consecutive year, signifying its dedication to educational excellence. This ranking reflects the concerted efforts of the school’s students, families, faculty, and staff and positions the Collegiate School as the highest-ranked institution in Bay County.
Established in August 2023 with a $7.6 million start-up grant from Triumph Gulf Coast, the Collegiate School operates as a developmental laboratory high school that emphasizes dual enrollment and career technical education. Initially, it opened its doors to a cohort of 100 ninth-graders, with plans to welcome an additional 100 freshmen in 2024. The school gives priority to children from military families but is also accepting students from various middle schools throughout Bay County.
The grading system employed by the state takes into account multiple factors, such as student achievement, learning gains, and college and career accomplishments. This system aims to provide a transparent measure of performance for parents and the community, highlighting the school’s commitment to educational success.
Located at 2430 St. Andrews Blvd, Panama City, the Collegiate School is set to begin classes for its third cohort of freshmen on August 11. The original cohort, now in the 11th grade, will transition to newly renovated facilities on the FSU Panama City campus, further enhancing the educational environment for students.
Looking ahead, the Collegiate School is set to host its second Summer Institute in partnership with the FSU Panama City STEM Institute in June 2025. This initiative will provide day camps for students who have completed grades seven and eight, centered on STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics). The Collegiate School is committed to providing a diverse range of career options through its cutting-edge educational programs, which include subjects such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Currently, the school boasts nearly 200 students in the 9th and 10th grades, indicating significant growth since its inaugural year.
