Indianapolis – The excitement surrounding the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game has been dampened by the news that Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark will not compete due to a groin injury. Clark, who was the top fan vote-getter and captain of one of the All-Star teams, sustained the injury during a previous game against the Connecticut Sun and will also forgo participation in the 3-point contest.
The All-Star Game, taking place for the first time in Indianapolis, will happen at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which is Clark’s home arena. Despite her absence, the event will still feature an impressive lineup of WNBA stars, promising to be a highlight of the league calendar.
Alongside Clark, both the Indiana Fever and Seattle Storm have three players selected for the All-Star Game. With Clark unable to play, injury replacements have been introduced, allowing players from the Washington Mystics and Minnesota Lynx to join the festivities, ensuring that the competition remains competitive and engaging.
Although she will not be on the court, Clark will still participate as a captain and help coach her team, named Team Clark, while Napheesa Collier from the Lynx will lead the opposing team, Team Collier. The All-Star Weekend is set to kick off on July 18, with events including a 3-point contest and a skills challenge taking place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and the Indiana Convention Center.
The All-Star Game is not just about the players; it also features entertainment for fans. An 8-year-old Fever supporter, Mi’ Joi Angel Perkins, will attend the skills competition and All-Star Game, having won tickets to the events. Additionally, Fever player Kelsey Mitchell is scheduled to perform during the Fever Fest event, which adds to the weekend’s appeal.
In terms of logistics, tickets for adult admission to various events at the Indiana Convention Center are priced at $28.40, while children aged 12 and under can attend for free. The outdoor music and comedy event, featuring headliner The Kid LAROI, is set to take place on July 19, further enhancing the weekend’s festivities.
Clark has been a pivotal player for the Fever; she previously held a record of 181 consecutive starts throughout her college and professional career before facing multiple injuries this season. This year, she has registered an average of 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds over 13 games, although injuries have prevented her from playing in 11 games so far.
The WNBA All-Star Weekend, hosting various events from July 18-19, is a showcase of the league’s marquee talent and serves as a critical moment in the professional basketball season. The All-Star Game, especially anticipated this year in Indianapolis, represents the culmination of fan votes, player prowess, and league celebration.
Even with Clark sidelined, the All-Star Game remains set to exhibit the best of women’s basketball talent, and fans can expect an exciting and entertaining series of events celebrating the players and their achievements.
