Belpre, Ohio – The Belpre City Schools Board of Education has appointed Elford Inc., a Columbus-based construction company, as the construction manager at risk for a new $45.7 million campus project. The board made this decision with a 4-1 vote, where board member Mollie Haught cast the only opposing vote, indicating her preference for another construction firm without criticizing Elford Inc.

During the meeting, board member Cathy O’Donnell highlighted the commendable presentations made by all the companies that bid for the project and noted that the community has responded positively regarding the new school facility. District Treasurer Lance Erlwein assured the public that, despite some circulating rumors about possible delays related to tariffs and other issues, the construction project is progressing smoothly and remains on schedule.

Erlwein also confirmed that the bond sales for the project have been finalized, with the proceeds expected to be available by early September. These funds are designated specifically for the construction of the new campus, which aims to enhance the educational environment for students in the district.

In addition to the construction updates, the school board approved ticket prices for the upcoming 2025-2026 athletic season. Family passes will be sold for $175, while individual adult passes will cost $60. Discounts will be offered for students, senior citizens, and veterans for just $25. Prices for individual sporting event tickets have also been set, with admission costing $6 for adults and $4 for students, senior citizens, and veterans.

The district’s free lunch program is off to a promising start this school year, with Superintendent Greenley noting an increase of 40-50 meals served on the first day compared to last year. The kickoff to the new school year was described as successful, generating a buzz of excitement among students and staff in both school buildings.

The board also discussed a generous $12,705 donation from the Belpre Area Community Development Foundation, which will support the high school student council’s participation in the State Leadership Conference. This financial contribution reflects the ongoing community support for educational initiatives within the district.

Overall, the Belpre City Schools Board of Education remains focused on advancing educational opportunities and facilities for its students while fostering community engagement through successful programs and initiatives. The new campus project signifies a significant investment in the future of education in Belpre, ensuring that students will have access to improved facilities that can enhance their learning experiences.
