Baltimore Man Sentenced to Over Ten Years for Fentanyl Trafficking and Gun Possession

Timothy Darren Proctor, a 41-year-old resident of Baltimore, Maryland, has been sentenced to 130 months in federal prison following his conviction for multiple charges related to fentanyl trafficking and gun possession. In addition to his prison term, Proctor will undergo five years of supervised release upon completion of his sentence. U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis imposed the penalty after Proctor was found guilty by a federal jury on October 7, 2024.

Charges and Convictions

Proctor faced several serious charges, including possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute, and carrying a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The circumstances leading to these charges date back to July 10, 2021, when police officers responded to reports concerning a suspicious vehicle located in Temple Hills, Maryland.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement found Proctor unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, which had its doors and windows locked. After waking him, officers discovered approximately 10 grams of fentanyl in Proctor’s front pocket. Further investigation revealed a loaded firearm in the vehicle’s center console, which contained 13 rounds of ammunition and one round in the chamber. Prosecutors demonstrated that Proctor had the firearm in connection to his drug trafficking activities, despite being legally prohibited from owning a firearm due to his prior felony convictions.

Additional Findings and Investigation

The investigation continued following Proctor’s arrest, with authorities uncovering an additional bag that contained 29 smaller clear bags of fentanyl while he was in jail. These findings contributed to the gravity of the charges against him, emphasizing the scale of his involvement in fentanyl distribution.

Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative

This prosecution is part of the wider Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which aims to reduce gun violence and promote community safety across the nation. The initiative fosters collaboration among various federal, state, and local law enforcement officials to address gun-related crimes and illegal drug activities. U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes for the District of Maryland, along with leaders from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD), announced the details of Proctor’s case.

Background Context

The issue of fentanyl trafficking has escalated in recent years, posing severe public health risks across the country. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid significantly stronger than morphine, has been associated with numerous overdose deaths. Law enforcement agencies continue to prioritize tackling the fentanyl crisis, recognizing the connection between drug trafficking and associated gun violence in communities.

Proctor’s conviction and subsequent sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and the legal repercussions individuals face when involved in such illegal activities. As agencies intensify their efforts to combat these issues, this case underscores the need for continued vigilance and community support in ensuring safety and security.
