The demolition project received financial assistance from the State Land Bank in Lansing, which allocated $500,000 to the Alpena County Land Bank to facilitate the acquisition of the property. Before the demolition, environmental studies were conducted, revealing the presence of contaminants in the original buildings, which mandated their removal.

To qualify for the new homes, prospective residents must navigate a rigorous qualification process aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability of homeownership. Participants in this process are also required to engage in “sweat equity,” contributing their time and efforts during certain building phases to make the homes affordable through an obtainable mortgage.

Excavating services for the construction sites are being provided by Dave Marchlewski, while oversight of the building process is managed by Bryan DeCare Masonry. The modular components for the homes at 317 and 321 Bedford are being supplied by Ritz-Craft Corporation from Jonesville. In contrast, the home at 307 Bedford will be built using traditional stick-built methods.
